I began the assignment with the development of the pictures above. I took my own reference photos and did the whole digital painting in Clip Studio Paint. The wasn't really any specific reason that led me to choose a "somber" theme, I just let the process flow by itself.
The second step was to experiment with different layouts. I tried creating a few book covers, but I didn't find the results to be appealing enough. After a long process of trial and error, I landed to the conclusion that the pictures would have much better use in a series of poster designs. Still, I thought the first result was a bit lacking, so I spiced it up a little bit with a black frame and some other text elements.
